That Time I Used Second Life as a Virtual Tabletop

  1. I'd be interested in hearing more about this. Did you build it for the game, or was it some kind of improv based on someone else's sim?

    1. I ran it on my own property using purpose-built sets. It was like LARPing in your back yard, with bemused neighbors wondering what the hell was going on. I had each dungeon room stored in inventory and could rez it instantly, with lighting effects, props, etc. Each player was expected to come in costume. We had an in-chat dice roller and could send private messages between DM and individual players. Funny, it was a zillion times more immersive and sophisticated than today's VTT stuff, and this was back in 2008 or so.

    2. I just remembered another cool detail -- we even had our weapons scripted so that if you typed the name of the weapon in chat, it would animate your avatar to swing the weapon and roll your damage for you.
