[Sneak Peak] Page from Dungeonteller Book

I've been working hard getting the full dungeonteller rulebook done and can't resist showing you one of the pages. This one is about what a character can do in one turn:

Dungeonteller Hero Pack

For those of you just tuning in, my fantasy-rpg-for-everyone, Dungeonteller, is finally coming out this summer in its definitive format: a free "hero pack" that is like a super-concentrated players' handbook, and a pay-for-it "dungeonteller pack" that is a DMG and monster manual in one.

I just uploaded the hero pack to drivethrurpg.com -- and I'm waiting for it to appear on the site. It has six 2-page hero sheets, 8 micro posters that explain the rules visually, and 4 fully illustrated gear, weapon, and armor pages. Here's the cover art:

The rules are in what I call "full sunlight" format: straightforward, colorful, lots of visuals, no big text blocks. These rules are ideal for introducing young people and non-gamers to fantasy roleplaying. Not rules light, but super consistent and intuitive, with tactical options that are as easy to ignore as they are to use. You can start a game in five minutes, guaranteed.

  • Uses six-sided dice only
  • The math is kept to a minimum -- plays great for ages 7 and up
  • Minimal record keeping -- hit points/effort/luck come from a single pool
  • Uses standard optimized base class characters that can be customized during play
I'll send out a post when the hero pack is up, later this week. For now, check out this sample character sheet, front and back:

[Lil' Art Director] Ghost

Last night I had to hear a painful truth.
"Dad, I don't like the ghost illustration you did for the monster book. Here's a sketch of how you should do it":

And while the kid slept, I did this:

Verdict: Approved!

Big Hexyland Preview: Node Mode

So here is one of the nine maps in the forthcoming Big Hexyland PDF:

And here, on the facing page, is a node map with succinct notes about each location and how they connect. The sunburst icon next to each node indicates the typical days' travel time through that node:

You can let players use the features map while you reference  the node map. No index, no thumbing through a gazetteer. Plenty of room to add your own notes. Picture nine of these maps, each with its own "node mode" key page, and you get the idea.
